Melissa Sercia Editing Services

Melissa Sercia offers professional editing services for query letters, synopses, and more.

Query

Whether you are querying for the first time or the hundredth, your query is important and it is the first impression an agent/publisher will have of your work. With two editing and developmental passes, we will look at voice, hook, stakes, and grammar.

*Turnaround time is 1 week

Synopsis

It is known as the “dreaded synopsis” for a reason, but it is a necessary component for many agents and publishers. With two editing and developmental passes, we will work together in bringing out the absolute best of your work. By assessing voice, pacing, grammar, stakes, and overall uniqueness, we can make sure that your synopsis is a true and accurate reflection of your manuscript.

*Turnaround time is 1 week

Twitter Pitches

There are many factors that go into a great Twitter pitch: character, stakes, originality, etc. It may seem daunting to sum up your manuscript in just 280 characters, but it can be done! With three rounds on up to four pitches, we will polish and tighten up those pitches for you.

*Turnaround time is 1 week

*Additional Twitter pitches – please contact me for pricing

Submission Ready Packages

One pass on your query, synopsis, and first chapter. This is an assessment of your opening paragraph, overall pacing, plot, hook, and voice. (This does not include line edits or proofreading of first chapter.)

*Turnaround time is 2 weeks

Submission Package Premium

Everything in the Submission Ready Package plus line edits on the first chapter.

*Turnaround time is 2 weeks

$450 up to 75,000 words – turnaround time is 3-4 weeks

Developmental Edit

This is everything. The entire stratosphere of editing. I will give you all of my impressions on your plot, pacing, characters, voice, and theme. With line edits and comments in Track Changes, I will give you my full and honest assessment of your entire manuscript. I will check for grammar, punctuation, and structure. I will point out any inconsistencies and plot holes, and give you constructive feedback if needed. This will also include two passes at your query and synopsis.

*Turnaround time is 6-8 weeks

About the Editor

I’m a published author with City Owl Press, an avid reader, and I’m currently pursuing my degree in English Literature. When I first started querying, I was lucky enough to find some great editors to help me get my manuscript into the best shape possible. I landed a three-book publishing deal as a result of that. My Adult Urban Fantasy series, Blood and Darkness, releases in the Fall of 2018. After learning so much from editing my own books while working with some amazing copyeditors, I decided I wanted to help other writers achieve their goals. While I can’t guarantee that your work will get agented or published, I can promise you that I will give your manuscript all of my time, focus, and experience to get it as polished as possible. Please feel free to send me an email with any questions and to see if we are a good fit. I look forward to hearing from you! - Melissa Sercia – melissaserciawrites@gmail.com
